City Colleges of Chicago Child Development (Chicago)Teacher

Seeking energetic, creative teachers for our laboratory preschools! City Colleges of Chicago is restructuring its five Child Development Laboratory Centers and is looking for experienced teachers who can create and maintain a high quality lab school classroom. This is a unique opportunity to impact the lives of both young children and college students by teaching an early childhood program in a higher education setting.  Each teacher leads a classroom team in maintaining a nurturing and stimulating classroom environment that offers a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets the needs of individual children. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

- Developing and implementing a child centered, play-based curriculum that provides for a variety of activities to promote children's development in the areas of language and literacy, cognition, social-emotional well-being, and physical health.

- Ensuring that classroom team and curriculum adheres to licensing, accreditation, and funding standards and regulations.

- Adhering to NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, demonstrating a professional attitude and work ethic.

- Providing supervision and mentoring to teacher assistants, aides and practicum students in the classroom.

- Overseeing and participating in the completion of required paperwork, logs and records, as well as documentation to assess individual children and the class as a whole.

- Adhering to requirements put forth by funding, licensing, and accreditation agencies.

- Working with Education Coordinator at District Office to ensure classroom quality is maintained.

-  Additional duties as required.

 

Must adhere to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards. Positions available at DALEY COLLEGE , OLIVE HARVEY COLLEGE , MALCOLM X COLLEGE , KENNEDY KING COLLEGE & TRUMAN COLLEGE .

Master's Degree preferred. Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood, or equivalent AND an Illinois Type 04 teaching certificate required. Equivalent teaching certificates from other states will be considered. Two years experience working with preschool children preferred. Must demonstrate the ability to create developmentally appropriate lessons that address the physical, social, cognitive, and emotional needs of the children. Must be able to interact positively with children and program staff, as well as college students, faculty and other personnel. Must be able to lead a team and manage the classroom environment. Must to willing to accept supervision and continue professional development in the field in order to improve work performance. Strong verbal and writing skills required. Must be flexible in receiving assignments and adapting to changes in the program. Must be willing to participate in quality enhancement initiatives that the center may undertake. Must be able to work well within a culturally diverse environment with the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy. Ability to operate computers and use applicable software required.

Director of Child Development
Seeking energetic, creative individuals to lead our laboratory preschools! City Colleges of Chicago is restructuring its five Child Development Laboratory Centers and is looking for experienced leaders who can create and maintain a high quality lab school environment. This is a unique opportunity to impact the lives of both young children and college students by directing an early childhood program in a higher education setting. Each Program Director oversees the total operation and management of a laboratory preschool, with the goal of ensuring a nurturing and stimulating environment for children. The Director is responsible for implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets local, state, and federal guidelines; working closely with the college faculty and administration to create a model training environment for students to observe and practice; and facilitating staff professional development. Administrative duties include but are not limited to: budget management; report writing; assuring compliance with state and federal guidelines; and staff supervision. Required to adhere to CCC Service Excellence Standards.

   

Qualifications

PhD Preferred. Master's Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood, or related field, plus 5 years experience as Director and/or administrator in a center serving young children required. Or a Bachelor's degree, while working on a Master's Degree, with at least 8 years of experience as a center director and/or administrator. Excellent organizational, administrative, and communication skills required. Must be able to lead a team, supervise personnel, and manage all aspects of center activities, while maintaining positive interactions with the College and District at large. Must demonstrate a strong knowledge and understanding of child development, developmentally appropriate practice, and how to incorporate these into the operation of a high-quality child development laboratory center. Must have prior experience managing budgets, supervising personnel, providing training to adults, and working with young children. Must be able to work well within a culturally diverse environment with the ability to handle situations with tact and diplomacy. Ability to operate computers and use software applications required
